The Angel and the Ring, Chapters 1-14

Hello, fellow book-lovers! One of the books I'm reading is called The Angel and the Ring. I'm reading it as a free read, and I'm reading a physical book. This is my first time reading this book.

I am actually finding it really interesting so far. Quite captivating.

In this story, there's this orphaned gypsy boy named Brin. He possesses a ring that his father gave to his mother, and there are people who will kill to get a hold of it. In this book, every so often between chapters, there's a section called 'Angel Blog', which is where Brin's guardian angel, the 'narrator' of the story, shares thoughts and opinions. It's a little strange, but mainly in a 'different' sort of way. There was, however, one statement in the 'Angel Blog' that was extremely Protestant, that I naturally bristled at, being Catholic. But that was one statement, and it can be overlooked.

At this point in the book, I'm going to rate The Angel and the Ring with 4 stars.

Out of The Silent Planet, Chapters 14-21

    Well, I've finished this book!

I don't have much I want to share (meaning spoil for the reader). The one thing I really want to share, however, is that you'd think that the title, Out of The Silent Planet is referring to Ransom trying to escape from Mars. HOWEVER, the title actually refers to Ransom leaving Earth, known to the hnau of Malacandra as Thulcandra, the Silent Planet. I thought this was a really interesting fact.

Anyways, I actually don't have anything else to type up about this, so I'll just leave a rating and leave it at that.

The second half of this book also gets 5 stars, meaning the book gets an overall rating of 5 stars.

Out of The Silent Planet, Chapters 1-13

Another one of my current reads is called Out of The Silent Planet. I am reading a softcover edition of this book, and this is yet another book I had to read for school. I have read this book once before, if you would like to check out the back cover synopsis and my rating and age recommendation please check out this link: https://aliterarygarden.blogspot.com/2024/10/out-of-silent-planet.html

This book takes place on Mars, also called Malacandra. The protagonist, Ransom, has been abducted against his will, as a human sacrifice. Ransom is forced to make a run for his life, and try to survive on the strange planet.

I had tried to read The Chronicles of Narnia previously, and actually gave up because I just ... I don't know, I just wasn't able to finish it. But I really enjoyed this book, and actually read the sequel, Perelandra.

This book definately deserves 5 stars. So I'll rate it as thus.

The Hobbit, Chapters 8-19

Alright! I've finished The Hobbit. I love this book, it's so refreshing and simply lovely to read.

I have no critiques, and I don't really want to give any spoilers. So I guess I'll just share my favourite quotes:
“There is more in you of good than you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”
“You have nice manners for a thief and a liar," said the dragon.
"If you don't like my Burglar, please don't damage him. Put him down, and listen first to what he has to say!"

For the rating, I will repeat that this book deserves more than just 5 stars. But unfortunately, I'll have to settle for rating this book as only 5 stars. Personally, I think it deserves twice as much.
