The Hobbit, Chapters 1-7

Hello, dear readers! Here is a book I'm currently reading, titled The Hobbit. I am not listening to an audio recording of this book, because our family owns a beautiful illustrated copy (shown above). Surprisingly, I actually had to read this book for school. This is not the first time I've read this book. I think that I've read it 1...2...3...4...... You know what, never mind counting. I'll just say that I've read it a LOT.

Ahhh. Middle Earth. Is it possible to read anything about it without falling in love with this world?

    Not in my opinion.

This book is lovely to just sit down and slowly read through, and to hang on the words. Also, this illustrated edition has pictures on nearly every page. Big plus.

The first part of their journey being over, Bilbo and the dwarves are about to head into the most dangerous part of their quest - entering the great forest Mirkwood. I'm not gonna give too many spoilers, it would wreck the book, for sure.

Honestly, this book deserves more than just 5 stars. But as this is the highest that I can rate a book, I'll grudgingly oblige. Fine. 5/5 stars.

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Book 1

I am reading the first book in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring as a free read currently. It is actually a pretty long book. I am listening to this book on Audible (you're gonna find me listening to a lot of the books I read - it's handy because I can do something else, be it chores or crafts, while I listen)

So far, I am enjoying it greatly. I actually know a lot of the stuff that happens in this book already, (1. my sister read it already and told me a lot of spoilers, and 2. we watched the movies for this trilogy.) but that isn't spoiling just how much I'm enjoying it.

I love Tolkien's world of middle earth, with the humans, elves, dwarves, and other interesting things. And my personal favourite, Hobbits.

The narrator that I'm listening to on Audible I personally think is a pretty good narrator; he is pretty good at making each of the characters sound different. There's a character named Tom Bombadil, and he pretty much sings everything; hence the narrator does, too. The only thing that is slightly annoying is the fact that the narrator gives Strider his normal voice, hence sometimes I can't tell if Strider's speaking or if the narrator's narrating.

Anyways, I'm just at the part where (spoiler!!) Frodo gets stabbed with a Morgul-knife. I already know what's going to happen next, but I'm still excited to go on! I'd say it's a 5 star book so far!

Until next time, and happy reading!

A Passage to India, Chapters 17-37

Ok! So I've just finished this book. Here are my thoughts:

#1: Not much happens in this book.

#2: Although it somehow captivates one's attention, it doesn't really entertain.

    #3: That's about it.

I don't know. I'm probably a terrible book critic/reviewer, and I can't think of anything else to say about this book, either positive or negative.

I will still give this a 3 star rating, I guess, as I am still impartial about this strange book.

A Passage to India, Chapters 1-16

One of my current reads is A Passage to India. Like the other books I've blogged about so far, I'm listening to this on Audible. This is another book that I am required to read for our homeschool co-op.

In my opinion, things take a lot of words and pages for things to happen. Currently, I'm almost halfway through the book and the conflict, or circumstance that this book is famous for hasn't even happened yet ...

The narrator, in my opinion, does an amazing job of narrating this book. The characters are English and Indian, and the narrator does a great job of both accents.

I'm not entirely sure what I think of this book just yet. I guess I'll give it 3 stars out of 5, since as of yet I'm impartial about it.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Chapters 8-12

Well. I've switched to reading a physical copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and I actually enjoyed this half of the book more than the first half. Here's why:

For one, our copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has little notes for certain things, like the Mock Turtle, that explain the meaning of those things. This actually made the book much more interesting than it was before. The cover image above looks similar to the copy we own.

That's actually basically the only reason why I enjoyed this second half more than the first.

My rating for this second half would be 3 stars out of 5. This would make for an overall rating of 2.5 stars.
